Michael Mejia (Meh-HEE-uh) is a Colombian-American artist with a versatile mixed-media skillset and a unique conceptual vision, best known for his transformative body paintings and intimate wildlife portraits. Michael’s captivating style blends surrealism, optical illusion, and highly stylized hyper-realism. By seamlessly merging the human form into nature, or elevating hyper-detailed wildlife portraits with iridescent pigments and gilded elements, he crafts mesmerizing illusions. Through his work, Michael invites viewers to look closer and think deeper about the subjects he paints, ultimately elevating consciousness about life, our animals, and the beautiful, intricate details that already exist in the natural world.

Most recently, Michael’s life and career reached a new level of viral, global fame when he won a customized purple Lamborghini Urus awarded by renowned singer Shakira in support of her hit single, "Soltera." Michael submitted a groundbreaking video that seamlessly integrated graphic art, animation, and live performance. His innovative vision captivated both Shakira and her dedicated fanbase, earning him a victory in the popular vote and securing the extraordinary prize. Recognizing his talent, Shakira stated: "I am very happy to be able to gift it to someone as a tribute to their creativity and ingenuity. As a master of bringing visions to life both in art and reality, and serving as living proof of his own philosophy, Michael channeled this viral milestone into his new book, Si lo deseas es tuyo: El arte de manifestar tus sueños (If You Want It, It's Yours: The Art of Manifesting Your Dreams)—a powerful guide where he shares his fearless mindset and teaches others how to turn their boldest visions into reality.

Born in New York City and raised by a single mother in a matriarchal home, between one of the most eclectic cities on earth and Colombia, the second most biodiverse country in the world, Michael gained a broad worldview that honors women, Mother Nature, and people of all cultures. While studying Fine Arts and Graphic Design at the School of Visual Arts in NYC (2009–2013), Michael fell in love with the ephemerality of body art. He soon made a name for himself as a television celebrity on GSNTV’s body painting competition show "Skin Wars", hosted by RuPaul Charles and Rebecca Romijn, and a mentor on GSNTV's “Fresh Paint” broadcast on Netflix, E! Entertainment Television, and other global networks.

In the realm of body art, Michael brings a vibrant, boundary-pushing energy to the craft, masterfully creating everything from hyper-realistic illusions of clothing to iconic character transformations and ornate decorative designs. Beyond the human canvas, his visionary fine art and digital direction have made a definitive mark on the music world—designing two official album covers and animated visualizers for Latin urban sensation Fariana, while earning high-profile praise and viral reposts from superstar Cardi B. Across international festivals, major advertising campaigns, and private commissions, Michael’s roster of celebrity clientele includes Jason Derulo, Timbaland, Elon Musk, Christy Turlington, Wendy Williams, Claudia Schiffer, and Stacey Bendet.

Internationally recognized and wielding a strong media presence, Michael uses his platform and the power of his creativity as a voice to amplify social and environmental issues. He advocates for nature conservation, gender equality, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ rights, while also encouraging body positivity and sexual empowerment. The freedom to challenge the system and exceed limitations to achieve his ideas is a vital part of Michael's creative process, driving him to continuously explore various artistic forms like sculpture, fashion and costume design, mural painting, and performative arts. One of his notable projects features a series of large-scale acrylic paintings utilizing iridescent pigments and gilding, titled “Wild and Endangered Felines.” The series was conceived as an elegant and magical tribute to wild felines on the brink of extinction.

In January 2022, Michael embarked on a two-year journey as the exclusive resident artist aboard a luxury cruise ship. In this unique role, he discovered a profound passion for teaching, guiding guests of all ages and skill levels to unlock their creativity and produce artwork they never thought possible. Beyond the classroom, Michael captured the unique personalities of travelers through multi-medium portraiture and took his craft to the main stage, delivering captivating live painting performances alongside a world-class cast of singers, dancers, and acrobats.
